It doesn't stand out as much in Kiwami because we've already seen plenty of crazy poo poo thanks to our best friend Majima (not to mention the even crazier poo poo in the other games), but I imagine it was a real moment for those who played the original game back in 2005-06. Really, everything about Purgatory is absolutely ridiculous. That's one hell of an evil lair office for being below a homeless park. No healing items allowed, either!ĭMorbid fucked around with this message at 19:17 on Jun 22, 2018 But here, if you try those tactics without learning to play more defensively and time your attacks properly, this Muay Thai jerk will simply dodge everything you do and wreck your poo poo. And even if you've taken a beating, you've been able to use healing items. Up until this point, you haven't had to think about positioning, blocking or dodging all that much, and you've been able to beat most fights by just spamming your strongest moves and Heat actions. I can just about picture one of the producers going " Florist? Flowers? Our audience doesn't want to see that kind of girly poo poo in our hard rear end motherfucker gangster game, rename that fat guy right now! How about something like Kage? Sounds like a badass ninja, right? Ninjas are cool!"Īlso, Pramuk in Yakuza 1 (or Plumuk as he's called in that version) is one of the toughest fighters in the coliseum and kinda serves as a wake-up boss for new players here, and I seem to remember some folks in Jamesman's old Y1 LP thread saying this guy was a bit of a roadblock. He's simply called Kage in the first game, and doesn't become "Kage the Florist" until the sequels. Kage literally means shadow, which I guess is fitting but kinda on the nose. I'm assuming the localization team for Yakuza 1 simply decided that Kage sounded scarier and cooler than the Florist and was a more fitting name for a shady information broker. I leave the thread in suspense about them for now.Īchtungnight fucked around with this message at 15:09 on Jun 22, 2018 Purgatory also features two other great resources that I'm sure future videos will show off in full. Yeah, fighting them is optional, but you'll still want to do it- there are fabulous prizes and it's necessary for the secret boss. And of course there are many opponents deadlier than GB Holmes. Pay no attention to what Kage said about "no arms, no armor"- in later Coliseum bouts, you will face armed opponents and you can be armed yourself too. It is indeed a staple of Yakuza games and very much fun in every game where it appears (sadly, it's not in all of them, Dead Souls and Yakuza 6 don't have it). I liked it a lot in the original game and hope Kiwami did it justice too (this game is still in my "to play" pile, other games on top). The Coliseum is my favorite part of Purgatory and I hope it is shown off more in future videos. Talking about this video would break two very important rules*. Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?
